Leadership of Kenya

An overview of Kenya's current national leadership — and the diaspora-vetted aspirants positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

Current national leadership (Republic of Kenya)

Public-record information, last reviewed by the KDGI Civic Desk.

H.E. William Ruto

5th President of the Republic of Kenya

Sworn in September 2022 on a Kenya Kwanza ticket. Current administration priorities include the bottom-up economic agenda, affordable housing, universal health coverage and the Hustler Fund. Faces sustained civic scrutiny on cost of living, taxation (Finance Acts) and public-debt servicing.

H.E. Rigathi Gachagua / Kithure Kindiki

Office of the Deputy President

The Deputy President's office has seen significant political turbulence in the current term, including the historic 2024 impeachment proceedings. KDGI tracks the office's policy output and constitutional compliance via our Governance dashboard.

Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang'ula

Speaker, National Assembly

Presides over the 13th Parliament. Key legislative themes in the current session: public finance reform, IEBC reconstitution, healthcare (SHIF/SHA) and the diaspora-voter framework.

Hon. Amason Kingi

Speaker, Senate

Leads the upper house on devolution, county revenue allocation and oversight of governors. Critical chamber for the diaspora's devolution agenda.

Hon. Martha Koome, EGH

Chief Justice & President of the Supreme Court

First woman to hold the office. The Judiciary remains a central institution for electoral disputes, fundamental-rights petitions and the constitutional review of executive action.

Council of Governors

47 County Governments

Devolution is now in its second decade. The Council of Governors coordinates inter-county policy; KDGI chapters engage county leadership directly on accountability, budgets and service delivery.

Where Kenya's leadership is heading

2025–2027 outlook. The country is moving into a pre-election cycle dominated by three pressures: (1) cost-of-living and public-debt strain on household incomes, (2) civic-space contestation following the 2024 Gen-Z protests and the reform of the IEBC, and (3) the constitutional question of diaspora voting, dual-citizenship rights and remittance-funded campaigns.

KDGI's position. We are non-partisan. We back integrity, record and policy — not parties. Our role is to vet, fund and hold accountable credible aspirants across the political spectrum so the 2027 General Election produces a leadership earned on merit. Every aspirant on this page has passed our four-stage vetting framework.

What we are watching. IEBC reconstitution and Chairperson appointment · Finance Act & debt-sustainability reforms · SHIF/SHA roll-out · Police reforms and right-to-protest jurisprudence · Devolution funding formula · Diaspora-voter regulations.
